The oil industry has a long history of successfully developing the world economy and providing energy necessities of life. With oil the foremost source in the global energy mix, the fossil fuels providing more than 90% of the world’s total commercial energy needs, which now more than ever, place a great challenge for the community at large, and in particular those in oil business sector, to capitalize on the opportunities of exploration, production and processing to cope with augmented demands.

Over many decades, Libya crucially considered as a key player in producing and exporting oil to the world, and yet likely to become world recognized country in both upstream and downstream sectors through its continuous dedication to extend exploration activities all over the geographical areas of nationwide, promote production and processing capabilities to meet its strategic goals of oil and gas, and enhance prospects for Foreign Direct Investment to incorporating in petroleum partnership and into share agreements through transparent bidding. In this regard, technology of oil and gas can undoubtedly play a vital role to accomplish effectively all of these business challenges and lessen the scale of associated risks.      

For its role as a leading centre for knowledge diffusion and technology transfer, the Libyan Petroleum Institute (LPI), being supported by the National Oil Corporation of Libya (NOC), has a keen interest ,through organizing the fourth biennial forum and exhibition TOG2008, in exploring from technology standpoint the current exploration opportunities and possible future for oil and gas projects development plans, to help establish the nature, scope and array of the challenges and opportunities that may lie ahead in Libya. Moreover, this prestigious gathering will integrate multidisciplinary professionals, mission-focused research and innovation towards offering technological means to develop the industrial facilities and solve the technical difficulties in Libyan oil sector.     

However, TOG2008 is an open scientific arena that enables all interested academic and industrial rivals to compete through demonstrating their technological accomplishments in a warm welcoming atmosphere that characterizes the nature of Libyans life.
